From time to time I build kilns that are more theatrical than practical - out of ice or phone books or wood or an old Mazda. They get invented around the tea table at the ASP Centre (www.ceramics.co.nz) with mates like Duncan (www.duncanshearer.co.nz) or while I’m driving down the motorway, or walking up Maungawhau. Usually get a pot or two fired - anything less than 1250C is considered a failure (except for the ice kiln).
